Actions



With the aim of promoting imports from neighboring countries and stimulating Brazilian investment in South American countries, the Program for the Competitive Substitution of Imports (PSCI) encompasses the following actions:

• Signing of bilateral Memoranda of Understanding and creation of an Executive Work Group (EWG) for the purpose of discussing problems, monitoring trade, clarifying questions, and generally facilitating the importation of goods from South American countries (Memoranda have been signed with: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay).

• Publication of the Catalogue of Brazilian Importers (CBI), printed and on CD-ROM, encompassing 5,300 companies that account for 80% of Brazil’s current annual imports.

• Publication of a Guidebook on “How to Export to Brazil” in Portuguese, Spaninsh and English.

• Creation of the PSCI Group, with participation of representatives of the Federal Revenue Service, ANVISA, INMETRO, INPI, MAPA, MDIC, INFRAERO, Banco do Brasil, SEBRAE, EMBRAPA and other institutions that have a stake in import activities. This Group, under the coordination of DIC, visits countries of the region to provide explanations and clarifications of procedures that Brazil applies to imports, and holds workshops, lectures, and seminars on the theme “How to Export to Brazil”.

• The Brazilian Government has offered to finance a market survey for one export product of each South American country.

• Missions of South American exporters to Brazil.

• Missions of Brazilian importers to countries of South America.

• Publication of a magazine “South America : Competitive Integration”, in portuguese and spanish, now in its 2nd issue, containing information provided by South American countries and targeted at Brazilian importers.

• Displaying of export offers of South American countries on the BrazilTradeNet.

• Studies to identify export offers of South American countries and attempts to match them with demand in Brazil.

• Market studies and crossed statistics; and

• Bilateral and multilateral rounds of trade negotiations.
