BrazilTradeNet

BrazilTradeNet (BTN) was developed to provide support for Brazilian companies seeking to participate in the international market. With inputs from a variety of sources both in Brazil and abroad, the portal provides access to numerous business, investment and technology-transfer opportunities, and expedites contacts between importers and exporters, who are invited to effect free registration on the website. BTN also aims to enhance business skills by providing access to market surveys, specialized international-trade publications, and detailed information on specific countries and markets.

Brazilian System of Trade Promotion

The Brazilian Ministry of External Relations’ trade promotion system is comprised of the Trade and Investment Promotion Department(DPR) and a vast network of Brazilian commercial representatives abroad.

Trade and Investment Promotion Department (DPR)

The DPR plans and executes Brazilian trade policy. This entails organizing and deploying policies for stimulating exports and attracting foreign investment, holding events to promote Brazil by displaying its productive and technological capacities and attractiveness to tourists. In the performance of its duties, in Brazil, the DPR relies on four specialized divisions within the Ministry. Outside Brazil, it counts upon 150 Brazilian Embassies and Consulates, 84 of which have Trade Promotion Sections (SECOMs).

Trade Information Division (DIC)

The DIC systematically disseminates information relating to foreign trade, prepares market surveys, and responds to questions from Brazilian and foreign businesspeople on business opportunities. It is, moreover, responsible for the Competitive Import Substitution Program (PSCI) the aim of which is to stimulate Brazil’s imports from South-American countries.

Trade Promotion Programs Division (DPG)

The DPG coordinates strategic planning for the DPR, organizes policies for attracting foreign investment, and manages the Investment Promotion and Technology Transfer for Companies System (SIPRI). It also handles Brazilian investments abroad through the Export Financing and Guarantee Committee (COFIG). The DPG is also responsible for training staff in the field of trade promotion.

Trade Promotion Operations Division (DOC)

The DOC organizes trade missions, seminars, rounds of business networking, and events to promote Brazil abroad; it provides support for foreign trade missions and for importers and foreign investors visiting Brazil; and assists in publicizing events for the Brazilian business community.

Trade Fairs and Tourism Division (DFT)

The DFT promotes participation of Brazilian companies in sectoral and multi-sectoral fairs abroad, and monitors activities of Tourism Promotion Sections at Brazilian Embassies and Consulates.

Trade Promotion Sections (SECOMs)

Trade Promotion Sections (SECOMs) stationed at 84 strategically located Brazilian Embassies and Consulates abroad, act as "antennas" for the Trade and Investment Promotion Department. The SECOMs provide institutional support for the activities of Brazilian exporters; gather and disseminate information on business opportunities and on demand for Brazilian products; attract investment; and provide support for business people engaged in fairs, trade missions, or related events. Moreover, the SECOMs prepare economic and commercial, product, and competitiveness surveys, and keep tract of the competition in markets within their jurisdictions. To view contact information about the SECOMs, click here.

In recent years, SECOMs have been opened in North America, Central America and Africa. With a view to ensuring the continuity of these activities, the DPR plans to expand its overseas presence by inaugurating new posts in other potentially attractive markets, thereby extending the scope of its support services and enhancing the potential of Brazilian companies.
